A manhunt for the individual wanted in connection to the shooting of two Bibb County sheriff’s deputies ended with the suspect’s capture on Thursday, according to Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall.
The large-scale search for 26-year-old Austin Patrick Hall began Wednesday after Hall allegedly shot the deputies along Highway 25 in the Brierfield area during a chase of a stolen vehicle.
The deputies were rushed to UAB Hospital, where one deputy is said to be in critical condition while the other is “doing fine.”
Local Birmingham news affiliate WVTM 13 reports that deputy Brad Johnson was shot in the head and is on life support.
According to District Attorney Michael Jackson, Hall was brought into custody around 8:50 a.m. Thursday after being captured in the Bulldog Bend area in Bibb County.
Hall holds an extensive criminal history, which dates back to 2012. Court records indicate that the suspect has committed crimes relating to assault, burglary, attempting to elude, property theft and injuring a police officer.
In 2019, Hall escaped from a Wilcox County work release facility.
A reported 16 different law enforcement agencies, including the FBI, assisted in the matter.
Members of the community gathered around Centreville City Hall Wednesday night for a prayer vigil for the two deputies that were injured in the line of duty.
