The Gulf Coast was shocked on Tuesday when one of the largest snowstorms in its entire history bared down on the region,  bringing several inches of snow. Multiple reports have indicated that some snowfall records in Alabama and Florida that are over a century old, have now been shattered by several inches.

In the city of Mobile alone, a measured snowfall of over 7.5 inches accumulated and broke the city’s all-time snowfall record set back in 1895.

Residents in The Port City took the opportunity to enjoy the historic event. Check out some of the best pictures, tweets, and videos from throughout the day:

Schools across the area have been closed since Monday due to the holiday and remain closed through Wednesday with Thursday up in the air as well.
