Tuesday, Limestone County commissioner Jason Black announced his candidacy to seek the Republican nomination for the Alabama House of Representatives, District 2.
The seat Black is seeking is currently occupied by State Rep. Lynn Greer (R-Rogersville), who has opted to forgo reelection. Black was first elected to the Limestone County Commission in 2014 and was elected to a second term four years later.
In a release announcing his candidacy, Black commended Greer for his service to the district and asserted that he would continue the current officeholder’s work to support economic development efforts.
“We need to maintain conservative leadership in Alabama. Representative Greer has done a wonderful job for our area. We need another pro-business, pro-growth representative to continue that legacy,” stated Black.
Black outlined his intentions to combat what he referred to as the Biden administration’s “liberal overreach” and to promote the conservative agenda as a member of the legislature’s lower chamber.
“The federal government and the Biden administration are encroaching on our rights. We need strong leaders in Montgomery that will push back against this liberal overreach,” declared Black. “Whether it is Biden’s liberal social policies or his out-of-control inflation, it is obvious that everything he does is wrong. Unfortunately, it is now up to the states to preserve our 2nd Amendments rights, promote family values, and to protect our elections. We need a conservative with a backbone. That’s me.”
The Athens resident touched on the Limestone County Commission’s successful industry recruitment efforts.
Black concluded, “I’ve loved serving as a county commissioner, but it was never my intention to make it a career. We’ve been highly successful in landing projects such as Polaris Industries, Bocar, Carpenter Technology, Mazda-Toyota, and GE Aviation, but now it’s time to give someone else a chance on the commission.”
House District 2 includes portions of Lauderdale and Limestone Counties. The primary election will take place on May 24, 2022.
