The University of Alabama athletic department finished the 2023-24 school year in ninth place in the LEARFIELD Directors’ Cup standings, the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics announced Wednesday morning. It marks the second-highest finish in school history, behind only 2021’s seventh-place finish.
The Directors’ Cup is an annual award given to the NCAA Division 1 university with the most all-around athletic success. The Crimson Tide’s athletic programs did not record a national championship this year, but seven teams finished top-ten nationally in their respective sports: football, men’s basketball, women’s gymnastics, men’s track and field, women’s track and field, softball, and women’s cross-country. Men’s basketball led the way, with their Final Four appearance netting UA 83 points.
Alabama ranked fourth in the SEC, trailing only No. 3 Tennessee, No. 4 Florida, and No. 6 Texas A&M. The Tide also finished behind Directors’ Cup winner Texas, who will become a full-fledged member of the SEC on July 1st.
