(Billy Pope, ADCNR/Contributed)

Those that are interested in learning about the skill of trapping in the state of Alabama can now register for the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources’ ‘Trapping Education Workshops’.

The department has announced that it will be hosting several of the ‘workshops’ throughout the state this fall and winter. At each event participants will be educated on the historical aspects of trapping, the biology of furbearers, and how to use trapping as a sound wildlife management tool.

Instruction starts on Saturdays with an introduction to the history of trapping, the responsibilities of the trapper, and the different types of traps and baits used. Saturday afternoons students set trap lines with their mentors. On Sundays, students and their mentors check the traps and learn how to prepare the furs.
