According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the consumer price index increased higher than expected at 0.4% for the month of September, which means it was up 8.2% from a year ago.

The Labor Department also released the core consumer price index Thursday, which excludes food and energy. This revealed an increase of 6.6% from a year ago, the highest level since 1982.

On Thursday, GOP U.S. Senate nominee Katie Britt reacted to the latest inflation numbers on Twitter as she was travelling to campaign stops across the state.

“I will say the thing that we’ve heard all day from people is inflation,” Britt said. “Obviously with the numbers coming out showing that the cost of goods has gone up and that real wages continue to go down, the effects of Biden’s bad policies are real.”

Britt said this should be a rallying point for Republicans to get out the vote in November.

“[T]hat’s what’s on the ballot on November 8th,” she said, “and we must send a really strong signal that we are ready to take this nation back, that we’re ready to create an environment where people can work hard and flourish and not be forced to make tough decisions in order to make ends meat.”

In an additional tweet, Britt said, “Hardworking families can’t afford more of this,” referring to record-high inflation. “November 8 is America’s opportunity to reverse course, & Alabamians are ready to make our voices heard at the ballot box.”
