Katie Britt leading charge to block natural gas tax hike: ‘It is past time to unleash American energy dominance’

(U.S. Senator Katie Britt)

U.S. Senator Katie Britt (R-Montgomery) believes every effort needs to me made to expand energy production and lower the cost of energy across the nation.

Britt and 13 other members of Congress introduced a bicameral Congressional Review Act (CRA) resolution of disapproval to block implementation of the Biden Administration’s Natural Gas Tax. The tax was passed in 2022 as a part of the Democrats’ “Inflation Reduction Act.”

“Over the past four years, the American people have been drowning in high prices from the grocery store to the gas pump,” Britt said. “It is past time to unleash American energy dominance and drive down costs for hardworking families. Blocking the Natural Gas Tax is an important step towards taking the lead on an America-first approach to energy policy. I will continue to prioritize legislation that unshackles our domestic energy industry and grows economic opportunity across our nation.”

According to Senator John Hoeven (R-N.D.), who sits on the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, the resolution is needed to “bring down prices for U.S. consumers is to increase supply.”

“That’s why we’re working to rescind policies like the Natural Gas Tax, among the many other costly and burdensome taxes and regulations imposed under the Biden administration,” he added. “Doing so will help unleash our domestic energy production and make our nation energy dominant once again.”

U.S. Rep. August Pfluger (R-Texas) said the tax was just another attempt by the Biden administration to push the radical environmentalist agenda.

“President Biden’s promise to end fossil fuels hurt the hardworking energy producers of my district who have worked diligently to increase production while fueling our allies abroad,” Pfluger said. “If implemented, the ill-conceived natural gas tax will handicap technological innovation, reduce supplies of affordable energy, and increase both costs and emissions. I am proud to lead this CRA to rescind implementation of the natural gas tax.”
