Katie Britt ‘disappointed that Senate Democrats blocked the MOMS Act from passing’

U.S. Sen. Katie Britt (R-Montgomery) called out her Senate colleagues on the other side of the aisle for voting against her bill that she believes would help mothers across the country.

Britt introduced the More Opportunities for Moms to Succeed (MOMS) Act in May that would have provided support to women during pregnancy and beyond, encompassing the prenatal, postpartum, and early childhood development stages. The bill would have also increased access to financial and healthcare resources and assistance aimed at helping mothers and their children.

The legislation failed to pass in the Senate Tuesday.

“I’m disappointed that Senate Democrats blocked the MOMS Act from passing today,” Britt said on X. “This commonsense bill would help vulnerable women and families. My [Senate GOP] colleagues and I will keep fighting for tangible solutions like the MOMS Act that do just that.”

Since the bill’s introduction, Britt and others have had to fight back against misinformation about the bill, including from Salon.com, which incorrectly claimed the MOMS Act would “launch a pregnancy tracking database.”

Britt gave a speech on the Senate floor Tuesday discussing the importance of the legislation.

“The legislation is further evidence that you can absolutely be pro life, pro woman and pro family all at the same time,” Britt said. “The MOMS Act advances a comprehensive culture of life. It grows and strengthens families and ensures that moms have the opportunities and the resources needed so that they and their children can thrive and live their American dreams.”

The senator said this bill proves that her party is the pro-family party.

“It’s a perfect example of why I believe that the Republican Party is the party of families,” she said. “What you’re going to hear after my make my motion to pass the MOMS act will be very telling about whether or not Democrats can say the same thing of their party. They’re about to answer that question. Are they more interested in scaring women and families or helping women and families? Personally, I am proud to support women throughout the seasons of motherhood and I am honored to lead this pro life pro woman pro family legislation the legislation.”
