According to a news release on Wednesday night, former Alabama Republican Party Chairman John Wahl said he raised more than $1 million in contributions for his campaign for lieutenant governor in a single day.

While no public filing yet exists of the haul, Wahl’s campaign was formalized with the Alabama Secretary of State’s office yesterday.

On Friday, Wahl qualified for the race with the Alabama Republican Party, which he resigned as Chairman of just moments before. The night prior, President Donald Trump endorsed his bid before it officially existed. Then yesterday, he publicly launched his campaign.

“Just one day after officially announcing his candidacy for Lieutenant Governor of Alabama, John Wahl announced a historic, record-breaking campaign launch—raising more than $1 million in the first day of his campaign, the largest day-one fundraising total ever reported in an Alabama Lieutenant Governor race,” his campaign reported Wednesday night.

Wahl’s primary rival in the race for Alabama’s second-highest constitutional office, Alabama Secretary of State Wes Allen, maintains a campaign warchest of $1,111,797.45, according to his latest report.

In the days since Wahl made his long-rumored campaign a reality, Allen and Wahl have publicly traded bombs in a race that is expected to intensity in the 111 days that remain until the May 19, 2026 Alabama Republican Party primary.

“This isn’t just about a number—it’s about what that number represents,” Wahl said in the Wednesday night news release.

“Alabamians are ready for bold, proven conservative leadership that will defend our Constitution, protect our God-given rights, rein in government overreach, and put hardworking families first. This early support shows that people know I will deliver—and that I won’t back down.”

Under Alabama’s Fair Campaign Practices Act, detailed reporting is ultimately what allows outside verification of fundraising, donors, and cash-on-hand.

Wahl has not yet publicly filed a major contribution report, which is required within two business days, nor his initial monthly contribution report, which, due to the date of his declaration of candidacy, is not required to be filed until February 3.
