As the Alabama Legislature prepares to convene for the 2026 Regular Session on Tuesday, January 13, Alabama Republican Party Chairman John Wahl said Republicans are entering the session with momentum, purpose, and a clear commitment to continuing Alabama’s conservative leadership.

Wahl said lawmakers have already laid important groundwork ahead of the session, with several substantive pieces of legislation pre-filed and more proposals expected as the session unfolds.

“This session begins with a strong foundation already in place,” Wahl said.

“Lawmakers have been doing the work ahead of time, and the legislation that has been pre-filed reflects serious thought, preparation, and a clear focus on the priorities of Alabama families.”

Wahl said the early preparation is a sign of a productive session to come and noted that additional legislation currently being drafted will further shape the agenda in the weeks ahead.

“As the session gets underway, I am eager to review the additional legislation that is in development and to see how those ideas translate into policy,” Wahl said.

“Alabama has become a national leader when it comes to conservative governance. Our legislators have consistently delivered policies that protect individual liberty, promote economic growth, and strengthen communities. I am confident they will continue that work with the same diligence and resolve this session.”

Wahl also praised the commitment of Alabama’s Republican legislators, many of whom balance legislative duties with full-time careers and service in their communities.

“Our Republican legislators are among the hardest-working public servants in the country,” Wahl said.

“They take their responsibility seriously, and they understand that the decisions made during this session will have a lasting impact on our state’s future. I have full confidence in their leadership and dedication.”
