On Monday, Alabama State Board of Education Member Jackie Zeigler announced that she has endorsed Caroleene Dobson in the Tuesday, April 16 Republican runoff election for Alabama’s Second Congressional District.
“Reckless policies from Washington, D.C. are corrupting education and putting a burden on Alabama students. Caroleene Dobson is ready to fight,” said Zeigler. “We need conservative change and a congresswoman who will fight for our Alabama values. Caroleene understands the role public education should play in our children’s lives. In Congress, she will make sure we are educating our children, not indoctrinating them.”
Dobson is a real estate attorney in Montgomery who grew up on a cattle farm near Beatrice. Dobson splits time between her law practice in Montgomery and her family farm in Monroe County. She also serves on the Alabama Forestry Commission and the Southeaster Livestock Exposition Board.
Zeigler is a retired teacher, principal, and administrator with 37 years of experience in Alabama public schools. Zeigler has served Baldwin, Escambia, Covington, Coffee, Conecuh, Crenshaw, Butler and parts of Mobile County on the State School Board since 2016. She is the wife of former State Auditor Jim Zeigler.

“I am honored to receive the endorsement of Jackie Zeigler, whose lifelong commitment to education mirrors my own,” Dobson said. “I share Jackie’s belief in the importance of upholding our Alabama values and fighting against the destructive, biased ideologies that hinder the growth and development of our children,” Dobson said. “The role of education is to unlock a student’s potential. Not to destroy it at the altar of indoctrination. With two small children of my own, I am dedicated to fighting to restore excellence in our education institutions.”
Dobson is endorsed by the Alabama Farmers’ Federation, the National Cattlemen’s Association, the Alabama Forestry Association, and the Second Congressional District’s Republican Sheriffs.
Dobson has an undergraduate degree from Harvard University, and a law degree from the Baylor School of Law.
Dobson faces former State Senator Dick Brewbaker (R-Montgomery) in Tuesday’s runoff election.
On the Democratic side, former Assistant General Shomari Figures faces House Minority Leader Anthony Daniels. The eventual Republican nominee will face the eventual Democratic nominee in the general election on November 5.
The polls open at 7:00 a.m. on Tuesday and will close at 7:00 p.m. Voters need to bring a valid photo ID with them to the polls.
