Sales tax holiday to mark severe weather readiness

With tornado season upon us and hurricane season approaching, Gov. Kay Ivey wants Alabamians to be prepared for severe weather.

To help residents, this weekend marks the 12th annual Severe Weather Preparedness Sales Tax Holiday. The tax holiday runs through Sunday.

The governor discussed the significance of the tax holiday and the importance of severe weather awareness.

“As we head into peak tornado season here in Alabama, it is imperative everyone remains weather aware,” she said. “The Severe Weather Preparedness Sales Tax Holiday has been a great help in years past and serves as the perfect opportunity to stock up on the supplies needed to help prevent harm in dangerous weather situations.”

The tax-free items include batteries, flashlights, smoke detectors, portable generators, battery-powered portable radios, and weather radios.
