Illegal immigrant kills 6-year-old girl in Baldwin County while driving under the influence

An illegal immigrant originally from Honduras is being charged with first-degree assault, driving under the influence of alcohol, and manslaughter after his SUV overturned and killed a a 6-year-old girl inside.

The illegal immigrant has been identified as 25-year-old Zelvin G. Pavon-Gomez of Summerdale. He is now being held in the Baldwin County Jail.

According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA), the single-vehicle crash happened early Monday morning in Baldwin County.

The girl was a passenger in the SUV when it left the roadway and overturned, leaving her critically injured after she was ejected from the vehicle.

According to reports, Gomez was also going more than 20 miles over the speed limit and had a blood alcohol level of .22 — nearly triple the legal limit.
