Huntsville house fire reveals murder-suicide involving father and toddler

A joint investigation into a deadly house fire in northwest Huntsville determined the incident was a murder-suicide involving a father and his child.

Just before 3 p.m., Tuesday, Huntsville police responded to 1115 Retlaw Street to assist Huntsville Fire & Rescue with a residential fire. There, firefighters discovered the bodies of a 21-year-old man and a 23-month-old child in a bedroom.

iThe Huntsville fire marshal and HPD’s General Investigations and Major Crimes Units initiated a joint investigation, according to an HPD news release.

Evidence at the scene, along with autopsy results from the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences, confirmed both victims died from gunshot wounds, the news release said.

A firearm recovered at the scene was determined to be the weapon used.
