Governor Kay Ivey has signed HB386, continuing efforts to reduce Alabama’s tax burden on groceries. The announcement came Friday during a stop on her Rebuild Alabama Road Tour in Limestone County, where the governor told reporters she planned to sign the bill upon returning to the state capital.
Later that day, Governor Ivey fulfilled that promise by signing HB386 in Montgomery, marking another step toward easing the cost of living for Alabamians.

“When we can reduce taxes in Alabama and provide some relief to the hardworking people of this state, I am all for it. I was pleased to sign House Bill 386 to take another notch off our state grocery tax,” Governor Ivey said in a statement.
HB386 builds on previous legislative actions aimed at gradually phasing out Alabama’s state sales tax on food items. The law continues a bipartisan effort to provide direct financial relief to residents, particularly as inflation and cost-of-living concerns remain high.
