  • A Special Primary Election will be held on Tuesday, October 8, 2013. Or, in the event that a Special Primary Election is not necessary because the major parties only have one candidate, a Special General Election will be held on Tuesday, October 8, 2013.
  • If necessary because of one candidate not receiving a majority of the votes in the Special Primary Election, a Special Primary Runoff Election will be held on Tuesday, November 19, 2013.
  • If a Special Primary Runoff Election is not necessary because one candidate receives a majority of the votes in the Special Primary Election, the Special General Election will be held on Tuesday, December 3, 2013.
  • If a Special Primary Runoff Election is required, the Special General Election will be held onTuesday, January 14, 2014.

“This timeline is designed to have a representative in place as soon as possible.” Governor Bentley stated. “The timeline gives candidates time to qualify, it gives voters time to learn about the candidates, and it allows time for those who are unable to vote in-person to arrange to vote by absentee ballot.”

Candidates wishing to qualify must do so by Monday, August 19, 2013 by 5:00PM. Political parties are to then certify their qualified candidates to the Secretary of States office no later than Tuesday, August 20, 2013 at 5:00PM.

House District 74 covers a portion of Montgomery County, while House District 104 covers a section of Mobile County.
