U.S. Rep. Gary Palmer is setting the record straight when it comes to the benefits of the ‘One, Big, Beautiful Bill’ that was passed by Congress earlier this year.
The reconciliation package extends $4.5 trillion in Trump‐era tax cuts set to expire this year; exempts tips, overtime wages and U.S.-made car‐loan interest from income tax; and delivers additional breaks for seniors and small businesses.
On WVNN’s “The Yaffee Program,” Palmer (R-Hoover) accused the Democrat of being dishonest about the legislation.
“Yeah, I think there’s a lot of misinformation out there about what we did in the One Big, Beautiful Bill,” Palmer said. “You know, the Democrat saying is out there that it was ‘just about tax cuts for big business and billionaires.’ The vast majority of the tax cuts going to go to people who earn less than $100,000 a year. It’s a huge benefit to couples with kids. We increased the child tax credit for people. We’ve lowered their taxes. It’s it’s going to be huge for people in who own farms and small businesses.”
Congressman Palmer specifically highlighted the benefits Alabama farmers will see from the bill.
“This $50 billion that was set aside in the Medicaid, part of it for rural health care transformation is historic, and it’s a huge opportunity for Alabama and that I largely put that together on the House side,” he explained. “We couldn’t get it passed in the House version, but we worked with the Senate to get it in to make sure that we have adequate health care in rural areas.”
“I grew up in Hackleburg, Alabama, so I get this,” he continued, “but starting January 1, Alabama will get $100 million a year for five years, it can only be used for rural health care…We did a tremendous amount of good for the farmers in this bill, so we just need to do a better job of explaining to people what they’re going to get. And I think next year, after they file their taxes and they realize what kind of refunds are going to get, I think they’re going to be very appreciative of what we’ve done for them.”
