Frances Taylor, former chair of the Alabama Federation of Republican Women, on Thursday announced her intentions to seek the GOP nomination for the Alabama House of Representatives, serving District 20.
Taylor is presently the third vice president of the National Federation of Republican Women, a group which consists of over 63,000 party activists across the nation.
In announcing her bid for the legislature’s lower chamber, Taylor noted her dedication to Republican Party politics.
“Alabama needs proven conservative leadership we can count on to represent us in Montgomery, “Taylor said. “I have been a life-long Republican and have stood by President Donald Trump and stood by our Republican nominees.”
Taylor is a defense contractor for U.S. Army Aviation and Missile Command (AMCOM) at Redstone Arsenal. She performs financial and process analysis for various weapons systems. Additionally, Taylor serves as chairman of the Alabama Institute for the Deaf and Blind Board of Trustees. She played a pivotal role in the recent acquisition of the institute’s new 200-acre Northern Campus, which will include STEM, cybersecurity and unmanned aerial system offerings.
The campaign noted that Taylor believed “a strong partnership between education and local industry will help ensure graduates are able to move seamlessly into positions that are critical to local companies.”
Taylor detailed the issues she would place in high priority as a member of the state legislature.
“Service is important to me,” she added. “I believe we need a person to represent District 20 who will hold the line on higher taxes, who will fight for fiscal responsibility and who will work to ensure we have a skilled workforce as more high-tech jobs come to Huntsville.”
In the announcement, the campaign made mention of Taylor’s longtime commitment to serving in official Republican Party leadership capacities.
In addition to her service of the Alabama Federation of Republican Women, Taylor served as a member of the steering and financial oversight committees for the Alabama Republican Party. Taylor is a member of the state executive committee and local county GOP, where she was on the policy committee and candidate recruitment committee. Taylor also serves as chair of the state party’s ethics committee.
“We have few conservative women in the legislature, and we need a larger voice in the direction of our state,” Taylor stated. “I have long been able to work to bring people together and I plan to be a vocal advocate for the Rocket City.”
The seat Taylor is seeking is currently occupied by State Rep. Howard Sanderford (R-Huntsville), who has opted against running for reelection. The primary election will take place on May 24, 2022.
