Former Alabama Coach Gene Stallings In Hospital After Major Heart Attack

As reported by SEC Country, former Alabama Coach Gene Stallings in a Dallas hospital after he suffered a serious heart attack over the weekend.

Breaking the news, Rick Karle of Fox 6 News wrote, “Please pray for Coach Gene Stallings! Coach had a serious heart attack last Friday night and has since been transferred from a Paris, Texas Hospital to a Dallas-area hospital. Doctors are optimistic today as they hope to wean the coach from his ventilator. Coach has been hanging tough through two strokes and now this. . .”

This summer we reported that Stallings suffered his second minor stroke while preparing for a speaking event in Huntsville. It’s unclear whether his recent decline in health is related to his medical problems from earlier this year.

Stallings is a legend amongst Alabama fans. He played football for coach Bryant at Texas A&M University in the 50’s and later joined his staff as a defensive assistant at Alabama. In 1992, after becoming Alabama’s head coach, he led the Tide to their 12th national championship.

The legendary coach is now 82-years-old. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2010, and frequently attends events with former Auburn coach Pat Dye.
