Fitness icon Jake Steinfeld joined Alabama Governor Kay Ivey this week at a virtual ribbon-cutting for three new $100,000 fitness centers that will serve students of Alabama’s public schools.
L.M. Smith Middle School in Birmingham, Saraland Middle School in Saraland and Highland Home School in Highland are the recipients of the new fitness centers. Each school was selected after demonstrating innovative ways to promote fitness among their students.
“I just want to say to the three winning schools in this magnificent state, ‘Wow, I am so proud of you,’” Steinfeld said at the virtual ceremony.
“Our students’ learning journeys absolutely include their well-being, and I know that having these fitness facilities on campus will be an invaluable tool for the kids, as well as their teachers and families,” commented Ivey.
Fitness centers of the type installed at the three Alabama schools are a longstanding project of the National Foundation for Governors Fitness Councils, which Steinfeld chairs. The three centers are paid for through public/private partnerships, and no Alabama tax dollars went to the projects.
“I am grateful to Jake and for all of the work by the National Foundation For Governors’ Fitness Councils to make this a reality,” Ivey remarked.
