Father of State Rep. Bill Poole shot in his Demopolis office

Demopolis city attorney Bill Poole was shot Friday morning in his office, according to Demopolis Police Chief Tommie Reese.

Poole is the father of Alabama House Education Budget Chairman Bill Poole, R-Tuscaloosa.

Demopolis Police and Fire & Rescue responded to a call early that a shooting had taken place at the city attorney’s office. Mr. Poole was found there having suffered a gunshot wound to the chest.

He was immediately taken to Bryan Whitfield Memorial Hospital.

“The medical personnel gave a positive outlook on how he is doing,” Demopolis Mayor Mike Grayson said. “I’m not sure if a decision has been made to keep him here or to airlift him to Tuscaloosa or Birmingham at this time.”

No arrest has been made yet, but the investigation is underway.
