MOUNTAIN BROOK, Ala. — According to a new study from Business Insider, Mountain Brook, an affluent suburb of Birmingham is currently the most educated city in Alabama.

The report used Census Bureau data to determine the most educated town in each state. For the purposes of the map below, Business Insider defined “educated” as the percentage of people over the age of 25 with a bachelor’s degree.

While the survey does not tell whether the educated in Mountain Brook were fans of the Crimson Tide or Auburn Tigers, as shown in the map above, the vast majority of Mountain Brook residents have received a college education with 82.9% of adult residents having earned at least a bachelor’s degree.

Additionally, the study reveals that the most educated towns, as well as the most affluent towns, tend to be suburbs of big cities. The suburbia of Mountain Brook with its median income of $135,833, fits neatly into this category.

It should then be no surprise that Mountain Brook was also recently featured on the “most affluent towns” map, which was based on the same 2008-2012 American Community Survey from the Census Bureau that Business Insider also used to find the most educated cities in each state.

Mountain Brook was also named one of Alabama’s safest cities, and just landed on Movoto’s 10 best places to live list this summer, with Mountain Brook being the number one place to live in the Birmingham metro area.
