FAA awards more than $10 million for infrastructure at Alabama airports

Four airports across the state of Alabama will receive a total of $10,109,066 in Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) grants for improvements to airport infrastructure.

U.S. Senator Richard Shelby (R-AL) on Tuesday announced the grant funding, which was awarded by the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) after being made available through annual appropriations measures, as well as the CARES Act. Shelby is the chair of the Senate Committee on Appropriations.

“I am pleased to announce that the FAA is awarding over $10 million to four Alabama airports for infrastructure improvements,” stated Shelby.

“This funding is significant for the state and will increase economic development opportunities in these communities as well as improve safety at these airports,” he added.

The following Alabama airport projects were awarded:

Auburn University Regional Airport, Auburn, Alabama – $656,477 to rehabilitate a runway
Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International, Birmingham, Alabama – $2,680,614 to rehabilitate both a runway and a taxiway
Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International, Birmingham, Alabama – $407,640 to acquire land for noise compatibility
Jack Edwards National, Gulf Shores, Alabama – $6,135,367 to construct a contract tower
Montgomery Regional (Dannelly Field), Montgomery, Alabama – $228,968 to update the airport master plan or study
