According to the Alabama Municipal Electric Authority (AMEA), the agency that dates back to 1981 will soon have a new name. Beginning January 1, 2025, the entity will be referred to as Energy Southeast.
This change marks the first time since the group’s founding in 1981 that it has rebranded. The decision follows the success of recent energy initiatives and partnerships that have expanded AMEA’s reach far beyond its headquarters in Montgomery, Alabama.
The organization is evolving to offer new power initiatives.
“We’re broadening our services, both functionally and geographically,” said Energy Southeast President & CEO Fred D. Clark, Jr. “We’re advancing the mission of public, locally owned power of all types.”
“It’s all about helping cities and towns tackle the challenges of growth. How do they address workforce and infrastructure issues while retaining the character of the neighborhoods, parks, schools, and businesses they cherish? Energy Southeast is putting power behind their efforts to achieve quality of place.”
Clark stressed that Southeast will continue to provide comprehensive services to its current 11 Member communities across the state of Alabama while also serving other public power entities across the region.
Energy Southeast, Inc., a joint action agency formed in 1981 and located in Montgomery, is the wholesale power provider for 11 public power utilities in Alabama, which serve some 350,000 customers. Its mission is to provide Member communities with a reliable and economical source of electric power, enabling them to preserve and enhance the benefits of municipal utility ownership.
