Longtime radio voice for the Alabama Crimson Tide Eli Gold will not return to the Crimson Tide Sports Network booth next season.
Chris Stewart, who called the away games this season in addition to serving as the longtime Alabama basketball play-by-play announcer, will take his place. Stewart called games during the 2022 season when Gold was out with health issues.
Gold, who is 70 years old, has been calling Alabama games since 1988 and has been at the school for 35 years. He is a Brooklyn, NY native.

“Eli has been an invaluable member of our broadcast team,” said Jim Carabin, VP and General Manager of Crimson Tide Sports Network.
“We are grateful for his years of service and wish him all the best in his next chapter. CTSN is fortunate to have someone as a part of our exciting broadcast team in Chris to step up and seamlessly transition to this role.”
According to multiple sources, including Jonathan Hardison of FOX 6 in Birmingham, Gold is not making the decision himself nor is he retiring, but that the university simply chose not to bring him back.
Stewart called both the SEC Championship game and the College Football Playoff Rose Bowl in Gold’s place and a transition from Gold to Stewart should be fairly seamless.
In 35 years of doing Crimson Tide football, Gold has seen seven national championships along with the greatest run in the history of the sport over the last 17 years with Nick Saban.
Alabama is now replacing not just one, but two legends this offseason between Gold and Saban.
