The Electric Cooperatives of Alabama Political Action Committee has announced its endorsement of House Speaker Nathaniel Ledbetter (R–Rainsville) for re-election, praising his leadership and deep ties to rural energy.

The PAC, which serves as the political arm of the Alabama Rural Electric Association of Cooperatives (AREA), represents electric co-ops across the state. Its board of directors, made up of cooperative leaders, approved the endorsement.

“Speaker Ledbetter understands first-hand the vital role electric cooperatives play in Alabama’s rural communities,” said Karl Rayborn, CEO of AREA. “His awareness of the challenges and opportunities facing our industry gives us confidence that his continued leadership will keep Alabama’s energy future strong.”

Ledbetter’s career with electric cooperatives began in high school, when he mowed grass for Sand Mountain Electric Cooperative. He later joined the co-op full time, completing a four-year apprenticeship to become a journeyman lineman. Over 33 years with the cooperative, he also earned a certificate in field engineering and eventually served as a key accounts manager for the utility’s largest customers.

“There are few who understand the world of electric cooperatives better than Speaker Ledbetter,” said Sean Strickler, AREA’s Vice President of External Affairs. “Having worked at Sand Mountain Electric Cooperative for 33 years, Mr. Speaker brings a deep understanding of the co-op community and what it takes to continue powering rural Alabama.”

AREA officials said the endorsement reflects the collective support of Alabama’s cooperatives and their commitment to strengthening rural communities while advancing the state’s energy future.
