One of the South’s most popular beverages has moved up the list of biggest soda brands in the United States, according to a report from trade publication Beverage Digest.

While Coke is still (and likely always will) hold down the No. 1 spot, Dr. Pepper has caught up to Pepsi’s market share as the second-most popular soda in the United States.

Dr. Pepper has been around since long before either Coke or Pepsi, hitting the shelves in 1885. Dr. Pepper boasts 23 different flavors of its product and has been trending up for years while Pepsi has been trending down.

According to Beverage Digest, while Pepsi’s assortment of soft drinks still outsells Dr. Pepper’s overall, when no diet varieties are considered, the two are virtually equal in total sales.

Coke, however, still has more than double the market share than that of the second-place beverage.
