In Alabama on Friday for an economic development photo shoot, Sen. Doug Jones (D-Mountain Brook) expressed his confidence in special counsel Robert Mueller’s team and the investigation they are running.

According to Alabama Media Group, Jones said it would be inappropriate to talk about impeaching President Donald Trump before the investigation is over.

“I don’t think anybody needs to be thinking about that,” Jones outlined. “I think Robert Mueller needs to finish his work. There was a report I saw in one of the newspapers comparing this investigation with previous special counsels – how far he’s gone, how quickly he’s gone – we just need to let this play out.

Alabama’s junior senator also praised the Mueller team as “very professional” and “incredibly efficient.”

“I don’t think anybody should draw any conclusions, one way or another. I think it’s going to continue. Mueller’s team is very professional. They’re incredibly efficient. We just need to let this play out and then we’ll see where this report ends up and what it shows. Anything before that is premature,” Jones added.

Perhaps unlike the confirmation process of Justice Brett Kavanaugh, Jones explained that his prosecutorial experience tells him not to “jump to conclusions” in the Mueller investigation.

Jones said, “I know a lot about what goes on in a grand jury and it’s very obvious that the special counsel’s office has a lot of information that they can’t and should not share with the public. I don’t draw those conclusions and I don’t think anyone else should. Investigations like this can take many twists and turns. I think he’s rapidly bringing this to a close. We’ll see how this goes. But then we’ll take a look and see any action that Congress needs to take.”
