U.S. Rep. Dale Strong (R-Huntsville) is continuing to promote his bill aimed at preventing China from owning an excessive amount of farmland in the U.S.

The congressman reintroduced the Protecting America’s Agricultural Land from Foreign Harm Act, earlier this year. U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) has introduced a companion bill in the Senate.

Strong discussed this issue during a recent appearance on “The Joe Pags Show.”

“Over 380,000 acres of that is owned or leased by China in America,” Strong said. “And when you look at it, it’s a threat to national security.”

A January 2024 GAO report suggests that foreign investment in U.S. agricultural land continues to increase. As of 2021, it was more than 40 million acres, with some 340,000 known to be owned by China.

“Finally, Kristi Noem is on it, the Department of Agriculture is on it, Pam Bondi is on it,” Strong continued. “But we have this property located around some of our largest military installations, and I will promise you this is a threat to the national security of America, and I think we’re fixing it finally and going to get something done.”

Earlier this week, Tuberville and senior members of the Trump administration announced the formation of a new, multiagency operation to protect domestic farmland and America’s food supply from foreign adversaries.

Strong said his bill will put much foreign-owned property back in American hands.

“I call it repatriating that property,” he explained. “That property should be in American hands. American farmers ought to be farming it, creating consumable products for the American people.”

The “Protecting America’s Agricultural Land from Foreign Harm Act” would also prohibit individuals associated with the governments of our foreign adversaries from participating in certain U.S. Department of Agriculture programs. These restrictions do not apply to U.S. citizens or lawful permanent residents.
