Cooper on receiving record: All gifts and talents are from God and for His glory

Alabama wide receiver Amari Cooper is having quite a year as Blake Sims’ favorite target in the Tide’s high powered offense. He’s second in the country in total receiving yards (1,132), third in receptions (71) and touchdowns (9), and he’s doing it all for the nation’s third-ranked team. It’s the kind of year that not only makes him the favorite for the Biletnikoff Award, which goes to the country’s top receiver, but also thrusts him into the conversation for the Heisman.

In this past Saturday’s 34-20 Alabama win over Tennessee, Cooper scorched the Vols’ defense for 224 yards receiving and two touchdowns. He passed former Alabama great Julio Jones for most receiving yards in a single game and also passed Jones for second all-time in receiving yards. Cooper now needs just 55 yards to pass D.J. Hall for the top spot on Alabama’s career list, giving him a good shot at breaking the career mark this coming weekend at LSU.

But if his Instagram post on Sunday is any indication, he’s keeping it all in perspective.

“All the gifts and talents we have are from God, but they are also for God,” Cooper wrote. “For his glory and for his pleasure. Don’t waste them, make great use of them and make him proud.”

Too bad this won’t get the same amount of press as standing on a cafeteria table yelling obscenities.
