(Mobile County Sheriff's Office)

Narcotics detectives with the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to Dauphin Island Thursday after local police reported finding 25 kilos of cocaine on the west side of the island. According to officials, the estimated monetary value of the cocaine is approximately $450,000.

Law enforcement carefully combed the beach for hours where the cocaine was found, but no additional amount was discovered.

The Mobile County Sheriff’s Office released a short statement requesting the community’s help.

“We will continue to monitor the area and ask if any pedestrian sees anything that looks suspicious, or like the photo’s attached, please call MCSO immediately. You may reach us at 251-574-8633.”

This isn’t the first time a large amount of cocaine has been found on the island’s beaches. Just last year Dauphin Island Police retrieved a significant amount of the illicit drug after walkers discovered a suspicious package that had floated onto the shore.
