A ‘larger than life’ tribute to music legend and Mobile native, Jimmy Buffett, is set to be installed on the waterfront at the Port City’s National Maritime Museum of the Gulf of Mexico.

According to the city of Mobile and the Mobile Arts Council, a bronze sculpture of Buffett will be unveiled at the 4th Annual Son of a Sailor Festival in September 2026, along with an impressive exhibit honoring his life, music, and legacy.

The exhibit, which is expected to span two floors of the museum, will feature numerous artifacts from the musician’s life, including unreleased recordings, videos, and behind-the-scenes footage captured throughout his nearly 60-year career.

On Tuesday, the city announced that it is now seeking experienced artists to submit proposals for the sculpture. Those interested should reference images of Buffett from 2000 to 2015 for inspiration.

The Mobile Arts Council is inviting qualified artists and artist teams to submit proposals for this landmark project.
