Traffic on a section of Interstate 20-59 known as “Dead Man’s Curve” was slowed significantly yesterday, as a truck transporting over 100 heads of cattle lost control and overturned. The crash happened around 3 p.m. on Wednesday. The driver, whose name was not released, was transported to UAB hospital.

According to ABC 33/40, somewhere between 120-140 cattle were in the truck when it overturned. Officials say several cows were killed in the wreck, and the rest were stuck in the truck for hours before crews could pull them out. Cowboys from Jasper arrived around 4:30 p.m. to assist crews in removing the cattle from the scene. They made a makeshift corral in the middle of the interstate to contain the animals as they worked to unload them.

That portion of the interstate was shut down for several hours as crews worked to clear the scene. However, traffic is now back up and running. There has been no report as to the condition of the driver at this time.
