Casey Wardynski, former assistant secretary of the Army for Manpower and Reserve Affairs, on Thursday qualified his candidacy for Alabama’s fifth congressional district with the Alabama Republican Party.
Wardynski joins Madison County Commission Chairman Dale Strong and former State Sen. Paul Sanford in qualifying his candidacy for Alabama’s open fifth congressional district seat currently occupied by U.S. Rep. Mo Brooks (R-Huntsville), who is seeking election to the U.S. Senate.
In a release announcing the filing of his candidacy, Wardynski touted his service in the administration of former President Donald Trump.
“For the past several months on the campaign trail, voters have made it clear that they want somebody in Washington that has a record of results. During my time in the Trump administration, I saw firsthand the damage that career politicians can inflict to stall an America First agenda,” stated Wardynski. “Regardless of the swamp creatures, my office was still able to help President Trump build the wall and get critical race theory out of West Point and counter the influence of big tech. Yesterday evening, I officially filed to continue my service to our nation and to north Alabama.”
The candidate spoke to his accomplishments as the former superintendent of Huntsville City Schools.
“I’ve seen firsthand how federal overreach can negatively impact education; I spent many months in federal court trying to get Huntsville City Schools out from under federal control,” advised Wardynski. “In spite of the uphill battle, we increased graduation rates by 33% and turned a $19 million deficit into a surplus without raising taxes. I’m proud of the fact that students and taxpayers prospered.”
Wardynski concluded, “Whether in the private sector, the military, or the school system, I’ve made tough decisions that led to positive results. When I was appointed by President Trump, I promised to serve at the pleasure of the President, and I did. In Congress, I look forward to serving at the pleasure of my constituents in north Alabama.”
The primary election is slated to occur on May 24, 2022.
