Carl announces reelection bid after Fed-proposed map signals primary with Moore

Alabama’s federal redistricting case moved forward Monday with the delivery of three proposed remedial maps drawn by a Federal special master.

BREAKING: The U.S. Supreme Court has rejected the State of Alabama’s appeal to reinstate its maps, adding total gravity to the special master maps in reference as of today. This will be updated.

The court appointed Montgomery attorney Richard Allen to create the maps after disregarding the map authorized by the Alabama Legislature in July.

The three maps handed down Monday by the special master accompanied racial breakdown reports of each proposed district. Each map is markedly similar to one another.

A common trait shared among them is reportedly a mutual district between two Alabama congressmen: Reps. Jerry Carl (R-Mobile) and Barry Moore (R-Enterprise).

As anticipated by some lawmakers during the special session on redistricting, the special master maps proposed would pit two Alabama GOP incumbents against one another.

Carl said, “Once again we have seen activist judges overstep their roles.”

He also announced he’s running for reelection.

Alabama Republican officials have said their intention is to win all seven districts post-redistricting, regardless of what maps are put into play.

The Alabama Democratic party celebrated the special masters’ tentative, unadopted maps, suggesting under the plan, Alabama will be responsible for overturning a slim GOP majority in the U.S. House of Representatives.
