State Senator Cam Ward (R-Alabaster) released a new ad for his Alabama Supreme Court campaign on Wednesday.

The spot features his two daughters, Riley, 17, and Clements, 1. In the ad, Riley looks to the camera and makes a pitch to voters on behalf of her dad.

Ward’s campaign says the spot will begin airing Friday across the state.

The direct address to the camera appears to be the Ward campaign’s televisual hallmark. In the state senator’s first ad, he spoke right to the audience about his core beliefs.

Close observers of Alabama’s politics may remember Riley Ward for testifying before a Senate committee where she spoke in favor of a bill that would make insurance companies cover autism treatments.

“We need you to elect someone to the Alabama Supreme Court who understands conservative, Republican, Alabama values — someone who knows judges should interpret the law. They should never make new ones from the bench,” Riley tells viewers in Ward’s ad entitled “VOTE BECAUSE WE CAN’T!”

She adds, “If we could vote, we’d vote for Cam Ward.”

Cam Ward is challenging incumbent Justice Greg Shaw for Place 1 on the Alabama Supreme Court.

As of the end of January, Ward has $101,743 on hand for his campaign

Justice Greg Shaw received a $75,000 contribution from the Business Council of Alabama’s Progress PAC on Monday. After that major contribution, he has $249,322 in his campaign coffers.

To this point in the cycle, Shaw has not released any advertisements for his reelection effort.

The primary will be held March 3.
