Madison businesswoman Sheila Banister on Friday announced the launch of her campaign to seek the Republican nomination for the Alabama House of Representatives, District 4.
Banister is the co-founder, executive director and board member of Singular Humanitarian, a volunteer organization which partakes in charitable development assistance across the globe.
She holds experience serving in a variety of capacities for numerous service-oriented organizations such as Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, Junior Achievement USA, United Way, and Girl Scouts of America.
The former business consultant indicated that her campaign platform would seek to address issues related to education, prison reform, small business and constitutional rights. If elected, Banister’s campaign noted that she would support legislation to enhance the state’s infrastructure, provide health care price transparency and support for first responders.
In announcing her candidacy, Banister provided a glimpse into what constituents could expect from her should she become a member of the legislature’s lower chamber.
“As a mother, wife, businesswoman and American, I am very concerned about our future and the direction we are headed,” proclaimed Banister. “We need more than just a representative who drives to Montgomery and casts a casual vote. We need leaders in Montgomery who are willing to roll up their sleeves and find commonsense solutions to our problems.”
She added, “We need leaders who are not afraid to stand up for American values and say no to cancel culture, no to censorship and no to big government overreach of any kind. I am that type of leader and would find it a privilege and solemn responsibility to serve the people of the 4th District.”
Accompanying the campaign announcement was a statement from Limestone County Commissioner Danny Barksdale, in which he asserted that Banister would “bring a wealth of knowledge and experience” to the legislature. He further added, “Her commonsense leadership approach is what we need in Montgomery.”
House District 4 is currently occupied by State Rep. Parker Duncan Moore (R-Decatur) and includes portions of Limestone and Morgan Counties. The primary election will take place on May 24, 2022.
