Business Council of Alabama Endorses U.S. Rep. Spencer Bachus

MONTGOMERY — The board of directors of the Business Council of Alabama has endorsed U.S. Rep. Spencer Bachus in the race for Alabama’s Sixth Congressional District seat in the U.S. House of Representatives.

“Spencer Bachus has been a strong advocate for job creation and eliminating unnecessary federal regulations,” said Terry Kellogg, chairman of the BCA board of directors and president and CEO of BlueCross BlueShield of Alabama. “His dedication to pro-growth policies that help create jobs is why our board of directors is proud to support him for reelection.”

Bachus currently serves as chairman of the House Financial Services Committee and authored the Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions (FACT) Act, which provided powerful new identity theft protections and entitled consumers to a free copy of their credit report. Other legislative accomplishments include deposit insurance reform, which increased FDIC coverage levels for account holders; regulatory relief legislation, which helped eliminate unnecessary and duplicative paperwork costs placed on banks and credit unions; and Check 21, which modernized the check clearing process.

Bachus has also been presented with the prestigious Spirit of Enterprise Award from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. The award recognizes members of Congress who consistently support pro-business legislation.

The Business Council of Alabama is Alabama’s foremost voice for business. The BCA is a non-partisan statewide business association representing the interests and concerns of nearly one million working Alabamians through its member companies and its partnership with the Chamber of Commerce Association of Alabama. BCA is Alabama’s exclusive affiliate to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the National Association of Manufacturers.
