Alabama defense contractor named one of the nation’s best employers for millennials

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Intuitive Research and Technology, a defense and technology contractor in North Alabama was named one of the best employers in the country for millennials by Fortune Magazine.

Coming in at number 13, approximately 31 percent of Intuitive’s employees belong to the “millennial” generation—those born between 1980 and 2000. The company was also named the best medium-sized companies to work for in 2014.

“This aerospace engineering firm was founded by former Army managers—hence it operates on classic values like integrity and reliability,” Fortune said about Intuitive. “The company has been reluctant to have lay offs during dry spells, which has spawned loyalty among employees. The workplace culture is friendly but professional, and perhaps suited more to buttoned-up, serious millennials than hoodie-clad, techie millennials. And that’s just fine for those who work at Intuitive.”

Employing 279 globally, Intuitive Research and Technology earned $249 million in revenue last year.

Huntsville was recently named the best city in the country for engineers by personal finance and economics website NerdWallet. The average engineer in the Rocket City can expect to make $102,766 annually and pay only $725 a month in rent. Engineers make up an incredible 6.1 percent of the workforce in Huntsville.
