Britt, Tuberville blast Olympics because ‘men are boxing against women’

U.S. Sens. Katie Britt (R-Montgomery) and Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) are among many across the world who are concerned about the controversy involving a male athlete boxing in the female competition at the Olympic Games in Paris. Alabama’s senators warn that the Olympics is allowing biological males to compete against females, which they argue is unfair and dangerous.

The issue arose when Algerian boxer Imane Khelif defeated Italian competitor Angela Carini after just 46 seconds. Carini withdrew from the match early fearing for her safety.

Britt reacted to the results of the competition and connected the problem to the Biden administration’s changes to Title IX.

“Take a good look at this photo. Watch Angela Carini’s interviews,” Britt said. “This type of heartbreak for female athletes—this unfairness, this risk of injury—is exactly what the Biden-Harris attacks on Title IX would cause across American high schools, colleges, and universities.”

The Biden administration recently added “sexual identity” to Title IX protections, which many believe will destroy women’s sports.

While Khelif was assigned female at birth, she was previously disqualified by the International Boxer’s Association (IBA) because she had high levels of testosterone in her system.

Lin Yu‑ting is the other boxer competing in the Paris Olympics despite being previously disqualified by the IBA. Yu‑ting’s chromosome test came back XY, causing some to argue that Yu-ting is in fact a biological male.

Tuberville used Yu-ting’s recent victory to criticize the Olympics and warned that one of the women athletes could get seriously injured or worse as a result of the competition.

“Many athletes dedicate their lives to training for the Olympics. And that opportunity is being STOLEN from female athletes,” he said. “It is BEYOND RIDICULOUS that MULTIPLE men are boxing against women in Paris. This must end before one of these girls is KILLED.”
