Abortion By the Numbers

Marking the 40th anniversary of the landmark Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision, the Alabama Policy Institute yesterday released an infographic titled “Abortion by the Numbers” packed with some jaw-dropping statistics. Based on the Alabama Policy Institute’s numbers, it appears that over six years worth of pregnancies in Alabama have ended in abortion since Roe v. Wade went into effect in 1973 — an absolutely unspeakable tragedy.

Florida Senator Marco Rubio, who many pundits and insiders consider to be the leading potential GOP presidential candidate for 2016, released the following statement regarding the Roe v. Wade anniversary:

“Today marks the tragic anniversary of one of America’s most blatant instances of judicial activism that paved the way for the destruction of innocent unborn life. Since this decision, tens of millions of our nation’s unborn babies have been denied the chance to celebrate a birthday, begin kindergarten or go on to contribute their God-given talents to our world.

“As a U.S. senator, I am privileged to serve in a position that allows me to fight for the lives of the unborn. I will continue to fulfill my duty to fight to reduce the number of abortions. As with many of our nation’s most important debates, the battlefield of this issue is in the hearts and minds of the American electorate, and I pray that we can one day live in a society that fully cherishes every life from conception until death.”

The Alabama House Republican Caucus recently released their 2013 “We Dare Defend Our Rights” agenda including The Women’s Health and Safety Act, which is an effort to impose increased regulation on the abortion industry in Alabama. According the the bill’s description, it would require direct physician involvement and set mandatory standards for nursing care and post-operative follow-up visits at abortion clinics as well as establishing severe penalties for non-compliance.
