The Republican leadership in Congress is using a mobile application developed in Birmingham to help keep fellow legislators and citizens informed of GOP actions in Washington, D.C.
WhipCast, an app for smart phones and tablets, lets users receive news on legislation and other information straight from the halls of Congress. The project, launched in mid-November, is a partnership between Birmingham-based High Ground Solutions Inc. and U.S. House Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif. High Ground developed an earlier Blackberry version back in 2009 when Eric Cantor, R-Virginia, was minority whip, but this one is the first political app for all primary platforms — iPhone, iPad, Android and Blackberry — and each with a different layout.
High Ground Solutions President and CEO Timothy McCarrell said information provided by the free app is the same intel provided to legislators and their staff. It also ties in Twitter and other electronic feeds for many GOP congressional leaders. Viewers can also read the actual bills on WhipCast.
“Unless someone’s watching C-SPAN all day long, they wouldn’t have access to a fraction of the information,” he said.
