Biden’s green energy ‘slush fund’ would be cut off if the Senate passes Rep. Gary Palmer’s bill

U.S. Rep. Gary Palmer, Chairman of the House Republican Policy Committee and a member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, is calling on the U.S. Senate to take up and pass a law he says will cut government wasteful spending.

The U.S. House of Representatives passed the Cutting Green Corruption and Taxes Act Friday, which was sponsored by Palmer (R-Hoover), by a 209-204 vote.

Palmer’s legislation repeals the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund. This fund provides financial and technical assistance to states and other eligible recipients to help enable low-income and disadvantaged communities carry out activities to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Critics say the it is just a $27 billion “slush fund” for green energy boondoggles.

“This is a major step towards securing American energy and reducing energy costs. This is a win for the American people,” Palmer said about the bill Friday.

“This is nothing more than a slush fund that does nothing to aid the environment. Instead, it funds special-interest groups, climate activists, and political allies that make no impact on the climate. “This bill eliminates $27 billion of waste and shifts the focus to where it should be, affordable and reliable American energy.”

The congressman also argued that Democrats are focused on the solutions when it comes to lowering energy costs.

“In order to help the American people and lower energy costs, we should be focusing on expanding access to natural gas,” he said. “Unfortunately, the Democrats’ IRA [Inflation Reduction Act] also implemented a tax on natural gas. This tax has made energy less affordable and less reliable for Americans already struggling under the weight of inflation.”

Tuesday, Palmer said the Senate needs to pass his bill.
