Alabama Secretary of State Wes Allen is calling on voters to maintain increased vigilance after his office received reports of a “misleading” and unsolicited mass mailing of pre-filled voter registration forms.
The groups responsible for the forms, according to Allen, are the Voter Participation Center and Center for Voter Information. Both groups are allegedly run by the same organization and have said that they intend to conduct two more mass mailings as soon as this month.
Allen believes the forms will cause confusion in the election process and has submitted verbal objections to block the groups’ efforts.

“On two occasions, this Office was contacted on behalf of Voter Participation Center and Center for Voter Information regarding a mailer they planned to send to Alabama citizens,” said Sec. Allen.
“In response, I strongly discouraged the group’s plan to mass mail our citizen. This type of targeted, partisan interference by out-of-state, third-party organizations is unnecessary, confusing, and counterproductive.”
“Alabama citizens can rest assured that the Alabama Secretary of State’s office and local election officials are well-equipped to handle voter registration in Alabama.”
“Trusted voter registration and election information can be found on the Secretary of State’s official website.”
The Office of the Secretary of State has received complaints in previous election cycles from those who also received incorrect pre-filled voter registration forms similar to the ones sent out recently by Voter Participation Center and Center for Voter Information.
