Business Insider recently took on the awesome task of determining the best burger in every state.
From local favorites like Poe’s Tavern in South Carolina to fast-food chains like California’s In-N-Out, the Business Insider team criss-crossed the United States in search of the best of the best.
“It’s National Hamburger Month and we think a proper celebration is in order,” wrote Business Insider’s Melissa Stanger and Alyson Penn. “To commemorate this all-American holiday, we conducted painstaking journalistic research to figure out the very best burger in every state, from mom-and-pop joints to celebrity-chef restaurants and everything in between.
Even with Alabama’s booming culinary scene, Stanger and Penn were able to zero-in on a burger that they believe stands out above the rest — the “Hamburger Fonfon,” served at one of world-renowned chef Frank Stitt’s Birmingham restaurants, Chez Fonfon.
“A fancy name for a fancy restaurant,” Business Insider said of Chez Fonfon. “The Birmingham bistro is better known for its French cuisine, but it’s widely regarded as the home of the best burger in Alabama. The ‘Hamburger Fonfon’ comes with comté cheese and pommes frites.”
