Bentley releases stirring tribute video on 3-year anniversary of tornado outbreak

Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley over the weekend released a stirring video tribute to the Alabamians who were lost in the massive tornado outbreak three years ago.

“On this the anniversary of the greatest natural disaster in Alabama history, I want to take this moment to join our fellow Alabamians in honoring and remembering those who lost their lives on April 27, 2011,” Bentley said. “As I traveled across this state and grieved with our neighbors, I saw not the worst, but the very best of our state. I love Alabama. We’re a hard-working, resilient people who truly take care of one another. Today, we honor those who died that terrible day as we look back at how far we’ve come as a state.”

Over the next several minutes of the video, Alabamians recount that tragic day in their own words.

“I heard some things that are unspeakable,” one man said.

“My wife was praying out-loud as loud as she could,” another man remembered.

“I went to 30 counties,” Bentley said. “I went to every county, every area that was hit…. Neighbors taking care of neighbors. That’s the thing. It was not something I learned in this difficult time. I already knew that.”
