Alabama Governor Robert Bentley announced on Wednesday that IT-TRI, LLC will invest almost $68 million in Lawrence County to build a steel tubing and manufacturing plant. The company expects to create a hundred jobs before 2016 in small town of Trinity, Ala.
“On the state and local levels, we are committed to attracting more jobs Lawrence County and to all of Alabama,” the governor stated. “I want people to know that our efforts to recruit more jobs will continue until everyone who needs a job is able to find one.”
Lt. Gov. Kay Ivey said she is happy to see another business call Alabama home, bringing more jobs to the state.
“I am encouraged by today’s announcement by IT-TRI to invest in Lawrence County. I am hopeful that this is the first of many new opportunities to grow the local economy,” Ivey said. “This new investment confirms the confidence manufacturers have in the skilled and capable workforce of Lawrence County and the surrounding area.”
According to IT-TRI president Rick Werner, the company expects to break ground this fall and begin operations by the end of 2014.
“Having two raw material suppliers in Alabama, Nucor Steel in Decatur and U.S. Steel in Birmingham, and due to growing Southern demand for pipe, the company began looking at sites in the Southeast United States for this new plant,” Werner said. “The ease of dealing with the Industrial Development Board of Lawrence County and the State of Alabama helped solidify the company’s decision to acquire 75 acres in the Mallard Fox West Industrial Complex in Lawrence County.”
Werner said the company will be working closely with the Alabama Industrial Development Training Program.
AIDT connects Alabamians to employment opportunities and offers highly-specialized training. AIDT is a division of the Alabama Department of Commerce and works with several industries across the state.
“Our goal is to attract more jobs and to help companies succeed,” Alabama Department of Commerce Secretary Greg Canfield said. “We are working everyday with prospective employers and with cities and counties that are looking to recruit industries.”
The Lawrence County Industrial Development Board said hiring is expected to begin in the first quarter of 2014.
