The Business Council of Alabama is jumping into one of the Wiregrass’ most closely watched contests of the 2026 election cycle.

On Wednesday, BCA’s ProgressPAC endorsed former Henry County Probate Judge David Money in the GOP primary for House District 85.

Money is challenging first-term State Rep. Rick Rehm (R-Dothan). He launched his campaign last fall in a return to public service after stepping away from the probate bench in January 2025 after a 12-year run as Henry County Commission Chairman.

ProgressPAC Chairman Kevin Savoy said in a statement today that Money’s local government experience and action-oriented approach will serve his district well.

“David Money understands that effective government starts with listening and follows through with action,” Savoy said.

“His experience leading at the local level gives him a clear understanding of the issues facing Alabama communities, from workforce development to responsible government operations. We are confident he will be a strong, practical voice for pro-growth policies in the State House.”

BCA billed Money as having a respected record of public service in Henry County, serving as Probate Judge and County Commission Chairman from 2013 to 2025, before retiring from the position in January 2025.

According to the pro-business group, through these roles, he earned a reputation for integrity, accountability, and a hands-on leadership approach—working closely with citizens to address local challenges and seize opportunities for growth.

“The Wiregrass can count on David to bring the kind of steady, service-driven leadership that supports Alabama’s economic growth,” BCA President and CEO Helena Duncan added.

Candidate qualifying for the 2026 party primaries is set to close two days from now at 5 p.m. on Friday, January 23. Rehm and Money are currently the only two GOP candidates qualified for the May 19, 2026 primary.

Rehm made his re-election bid official at a campaign kickoff event alongside Speaker of the House Nathaniel Ledbetter (R-Rainsville) in October.

Also in Rehm’s corner is the Alabama Farmers Federation, who announced their support for his second term in November.
