The University of Alabama Athletics Department released a new video Tuesday featuring the Crimson Tide’s standout punter JK Scott raising awareness of human trafficking as part of the #ShutOutHT campaign.

“Did you know that large sporting events such as the Super Bowl, the World Series, and the NBA Playoffs, as well as college sporting events like college football games and the Final Four continue to have an increase in demand for human trafficking services?” Scott asks.

According to #ShutOutHT’s website, “Human trafficking is one of the most horrific human rights violations existing in our world today. An estimated 26 to 28 million people—about half of whom are women and children—are enslaved at this very moment.”

In recent years awareness of the sustained problem of human trafficking, particularly surrounding large sporting events, has grown. As part of the #ShutOutHT campaign, the University of Alabama is hoping to spread the message even more thoroughly.

“Help us get the word out so we can do out part to help Shut Out Trafficking,” Scott implores.
