A federal appeals court says a lawsuit can go forward challenging an Alabama law that blocked the city of Birmingham’s attempt to set a minimum wage. The 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals on Wednesday reversed a judge’s order dismissing the lawsuit.

Weather service: Tornado touched down in Opelika

The National Weather Service says a tornado toppled trees and damaged homes in Opelika in eastern Alabama. AL.com reports it was an EF-0 tornado with winds of 85 miles per hour that touched down on Saturday evening.

Alabama red snapper season ending six weeks early

Alabama’s recreational fishing season for red snapper will close in territorial waters six weeks earlier than usual. The Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, Marine Resources Division said the season officially closes at 11:59 p.m. Sunday. The planned closing date was Sept. 3.
